[Stockholm, Sweden, December 8, 2023] Swedish solar energy leader Midsummer shipped another of its DUO machines for the manufacturing of thin film solar cells from Sweden to Italy yesterday, The DUOs are made at Midsummer’s factory in Järfälla. This DUO is being transported to Midsummer's new factory in Bari by truck and the production equipment is expected to arrive in Bari in the days before Christmas.

Once installed, it will bring the number of DUOs on site in Italy to seven out of ten planned. Another three DUOs are under production in Järfälla and they will be shipped to Italy just after Christmas for installation early in January.

The automated module line is also being shipped from Sweden just after Christmas by truck to Bari, where it arrives and is installed in January. The module line weighs just over 45 tons and the shipping requires eight trucks. The Italian factory is thus ready for a fully automated production start in the first quarter of 2024.

Midsummer DUO is a turnkey production system for the mass production of durable, flexible and cadmium-free thin film solar cells (CIGS) with a minimal CO2 footprint. With a compact design intended for high capacity, operational reliability and superior material use, the unique DUO system has taken the position as the most widespread production system for flexibla thin film solar cells in the world. Midsummer DUO is also available in an upgraded more advanced R&D version (R&D Midsummer DUO) and in a generic research version (R&D Midsummer UNO).

Fully operational, the factory in Bari can produce 50 MW of solar cells per year, making it the largest of its kind in Europe. Midsummer Italia has already signed letters of intent for two-thirds of the Italian factory's maximum production capacity with seven national players in construction and roofing. For the construction of the factory in Italy, Midsummer receives a grant from the Italian investment vehicle Invitalia totaling approximately SEK 240 million, of which approximately SEK 75 million has already been paid out.
