The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) is taking stringent steps to develop the ''Contents Industry' with their goal of evolving Korea into a global content powerhouse. For this, MCST announced three specific tasks on how to drive the 'Contents Industry' forward such as establishing the industry condition for global content, the development of market creative content, and creating a healthy copyright distribution environment.
First of all, for creating the conditions for the global content industry; the ministry will set up the 'Content Industry Promotion Committee', which is planned to be launched in the middle of January. After the launch, the committee will establish the 'Content Industry Promotion Plan' and invest KRW 200 billion for it.
The long-term goal for MCST is to nurture next-generation content market-creation by supporting the gaming industry, Social Network Services (SNS) and smart-content such as smartphones and smart pads, which are expected to grow rapidly. Therefore, MCST will actively support the market by producing content with a competitive edge, so that Korea can join the ranks as a global leader. Also, the ministry will create the 'Smart Content Promotion Plan' by June and invest more than KRW 20 billion for production costs, building a smart game hub, technology development and public relations.
On top of that, MCST will choose the 100 next generation game companies and support the joint service platform, which is a co-brand operation for the gaming industry. Along with this, the ministry will focus on establishing the copyright-based retail environment for the healthy growth of the content industry.
