SK C&C attended the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) as a representative of South Korean industry, showcasing SK C&C's advanced digital net-zero technology to the world.

On December 12, SK C&C announced that it attended COP28, held from November 30 to December 12 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and presented on the topic of Korean industry's efforts to become carbon neutral.

The COP is an annual gathering of member countries of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to discuss climate change responses. Many countries around the world use the COP to determine the level and strategy of climate change response.

At this year's COP28, the main agenda items include a review of global implementation of the Paris Agreement, which entered into force at COP21, a roadmap for accelerating the global energy transition and comprehensive climate action, and standardization of voluntary carbon reduction markets.

In particular, the Korea Pavilion was set up at COP28 to share the current status of carbon neutrality and carbon reduction practices in the Korean industry.

SK C&C, a digital ITS partner that provides a reliable net-zero platform for the domestic voluntary carbon reduction market, attended COP28 as a delegate from the Korean industry.

SK C&C's presentation focused on Korean industry's carbon reduction efforts and digital net-zero technology.

Park Sung-tae, Head of Carbon.Biz Development at SK C&C, gave two presentations on December 6 and 8, sharing the current status of the voluntary carbon reduction market in Korea and introducing the digital Net Zero platform developed by SK C&C.

He introduced Centero, a voluntary carbon reduction certification and trading platform, and shared examples of carbon reduction business activation through Tech Based Solution (TBS) registered with Centero.

Attendees noted that Centero provides one-stop support from implementing carbon reduction projects to trading credits in line with the voluntary carbon reduction certification body process.

Along with certification body registration, Centero supports carbon reduction methodology management, project management, and carbon certification resource management that reflects global initiative rules, regulations, and standards.

This contributes to increasing the credibility of certified credits by providing a registry system that reflects the characteristics of carbon reduction certification organizations and the global certification system.

Throughout the event, inquiries from companies and organizations in various countries and voluntary carbon reduction credit developers continued to join and cooperate with Centero, confirming the possibility of expanding into the global market.

"Through our participation in COP28, we have created an opportunity for SK C&C's digital net-zero technology to be recognized in the global market," said Bang Soo-in, head of SK C&C's Digital ESG Group. "We want to contribute to the development of Korea as a globally recognized model country for voluntary carbon reduction."
