Park Hyun-joo, founder and chairman of Mirae Asset Group, will receive this year's Academy of International Business (AIB) Chief Executive Award in recognition of the group's business performance.
On December 20, Mirae Asset Group announced that Chairman Park Hyun-joo will receive the International Chief Executive Award at the AIB Annual Meeting in Seoul next July and deliver the keynote address at the Academy of International Business General Assembly.
AIB is the largest academic organization in the field of international management comprised of world-renowned scholars and professionals, was founded in 1959 in Michigan, U.S., and has more than 3,400 members in about 90 countries around the world.
The International Chief Executive of the Year Award recognizes business leaders who have significantly enhanced their company's reputation and performance on the international stage, and Park is being honored for his innovative leadership in developing Mirae Asset Group into a global top-tier investment bank. This is the first time in 28 years and the second time in history that a Korean company has been honored.
In the 20 years since its founding, Mirae Asset Group has grown its global business to $100 billion in client assets. In his role as Group Global Strategist (GSO), Mr. Park has focused on overseas business, leading acquisitions such as Global X, a leading U.S. provider of innovative thematic exchange traded funds (ETFs), in 2018, and GHCO, a U.K. ETF market maker, last year. Recently, the group acquired India-based brokerage firm Sharekan for about 480 billion won, securing a new growth engine for the group.
