HJ Shipbuilding & Construction (HJSC) continues to showcase its unparalleled expertise in special-purpose vessels, securing four additional orders for new naval patrol killers, marking a successful follow-up to the previous year's achievements.

Announced on December 26, 2023, the multinational shipbuilder finalized a shipbuilding contract worth KRW 249.3 billion with the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA). Earlier this month, HJSC was designated as the negotiation partner for constructing four naval patrol killers (Black Eagle-B Batch II) numbered 5-8.

Building on its success in delivering 16 warships under the Black Eagle-B Batch I project, HJSC further solidified its excellence by securing contracts for four vessels last year and an additional four ships this year as part of the Batch-II initiative.

The new naval ship project aims to construct 200-ton patrol vessels as replacements for the Chamsuri-class patrol boats (PKMs), which played a crucial role in the first and second Naval Battles of Yeonpyeong. Recognized as a next-generation combat ship, the new vessel surpasses its predecessors in terms of detection, defense, and mission-accomplishing capabilities.

Initiated with the manufacturing of the first home-built patrol ship 'Haksaeng' in 1972, the nation's premier maritime defense industry leader has achieved significant milestones in the history of Korean high-speed patrol boats over nearly five decades.

To date, the South Korean shipbuilder has delivered nearly 100 Chamsuri-class patrol boats and secured contracts for eight next-generation patrol killer guided-missiles (PKGs) and 24 new patrol boats, firmly establishing its influence in the realm of high-speed patrol ships. The cumulative contract value for new naval patrol boats stands at approximately KRW 1.7 trillion.

"Drawing on our five decades of experience and advanced technologies in building diverse naval ships, including ROKS Marado, we remain committed to strengthening maritime security and defense," said an official from HJSC.
