Mirae Asset Group announced on January 2 that Chairman Park Hyeon-joo has pledged to donate shares of Mirae Asset Consulting to foster talent in Korea.
Chairman Park signed a donation agreement with the Mirae Asset Hope Foundation on December 26, 2023 at Mirae Asset Center1. Through this agreement, Chairman Park promised to donate up to 25% of Mirae Asset Consulting shares to the Mirae Asset Hope Foundation in the future.
Mirae Asset Hope Foundation is a foundation established by Chairman Park with the support of his parents. Since its establishment in 1998, it has been conducting various social contribution projects such as providing scholarships to domestic university students for their academic and personal development.
The donation will take place at a time when regulations regarding stock ownership in public interest corporations are being relaxed. The pledge to donate shares can be seen as an expression of Chairman Park's commitment to a system of professional managers rather than second-generation management. While his children will continue to hold shares and participate in the board of directors, Park has stated that he will entrust the management of the company to professional managers.
In addition, shares of Mirae Asset Capital and Mirae Asset Global Investments will also be donated through family discussions in the future, fulfilling the purpose of establishing a foundation and contributing to society since the founding of Mirae Asset.
