Ssangyong Engineering & Construction (Ssangyong E&C) announced on January 9 that it has won the final order for the construction and operation of a solar power plant and energy storage system (ESS) facility ordered by the Haitian Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF).

The project is for the construction and operation of a solar power plant (12MW) and an energy storage system (10MWh) to supply power to the Caracol Industrial Park in northern Haiti, where the Global Sae-A factory is located, for a period of five years.

The project is valued at $57 million. It is a stable project financed by the Inter-American Development Bank. The Haiti solar project is the first project that Ssangyong E&C has won with the support and synergy of the Global Sae-A Group after becoming its largest shareholder.

This is Ssangyong E&C's first foray into the Latin American construction market. Ssangyong E&C expects this project to be a bridgehead for further expansion into Latin America, including Costa Rica, Dominica, Guatemala, and Nicaragua, where Global Sae-A is present.

Since its founding in 1977, Ssangyong E&C has won 186 projects (worth $13.1 billion) in 22 overseas countries, including Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, India, Pakistan, and the Middle East such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, as well as the United States, Japan, and Africa.

"The Haiti solar project is a project that has achieved the twin goals of exploring new markets and participating in new businesses through the support and cooperation of group companies," said an official from Ssangyong E&C. "Based on this, Ssangyong E&C will actively pursue renewable and eco-friendly businesses at home and abroad."
