Hanwha Ocean has strengthened its collaboration with Babcock International in the UK to secure its leadership in the global submarine market.

On January 11, Babcock International's Managing Director for International, Sir Nick Hine, and other key stakeholders visited Hanwha Ocean's Siheung R&D campus.

Hanwha Ocean introduced Babcock International officials to Hanwha Ocean's state-of-the-art research facilities and technological competitiveness in submarines. The two companies also discussed ways to provide optimal solutions to meet the needs of the global submarine market.

Babcock International's visit is a private sector exchange that embodies the spirit of the Memorandum of Understanding on Joint Defense Exports signed between the governments of the Republic of Korea and the United Kingdom last November and the partnership to deepen mutual defense cooperation.

Babcock International, a leading global defense company, is a global specialist defense company with an unrivaled track record and capabilities in submarine maintenance and parts procurement, including providing In Service Support (ISS) for the entire life cycle of submarines in the UK, Canada, Australia, South Africa.

In recent years, the company has been focusing on strengthening cooperation with Hanwha Ocean, which has the world's best diesel submarine competitiveness, to accelerate its expansion into the global submarine export market. The company is also involved in Hanwha Ocean's Jangbogo-III project, which is currently under construction, to support the technical advancement of the product.

"It was a very interesting visit to see first-hand the technical capabilities and R&D efforts of Hanwha Ocean that have resulted in the Jangbogo-III submarine, which is now the center of attention for the global defense industry," said Nick Hine, Managing Director of International Business/AUKUS. "Babcock is looking forward to strengthening our relationship with Hanwha Ocean, a highly capable submarine design and construction company, as we work together to explore new global markets."

Babcock International's AUKUS team is led by Sir Nick Hine, a former Second Sea Lord in the Royal Navy.

Since June last year, Hanwha Ocean has partnered with Babcock Canada on the CPSP project, signing a Technical Cooperation Agreement and holding a submarine maintenance technology exchange seminar in Seoul.
