LG Electronics (LG) has taken a step in expanding its electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions infrastructure by inaugurating its first EV charger production factory in the U.S. Situated in Fort Worth, Texas.
This new facility spans 5,500 square meters and is poised to cater specifically to the North American market.
With an anticipated annual capacity exceeding 10,000 units, this marks LG's initial foray into EV charger production outside of South Korea, where its affiliated company HiEV Charger established a manufacturing operation last year.
Strategically selecting Texas as the location for its U.S.-based EV charger production factory, LG cites multiple reasons, including the utilization of existing facilities and the state's robust logistics and transportation networks. Texas is also home to major operations across various industries, from automobile manufacturing to finance.
In 2023, LG CEO William Cho highlighted 'Electrification' as a key driver of rapid mid- to long-term growth. The move into the U.S. EV charging market positions LG to meet the escalating local demand and explore new business opportunities. Aligned with U.S. government goals, LG is committed to strengthening its EV charger business, with plans for global expansion in Asia and Europe.
The Texas factory has commenced assembly of 11kW chargers and will begin production of 175kW fast chargers in the first half of the year. LG's ambitious plans also include introducing a 350kW ultra-fast charger in 2024, diversifying its EV charger lineup to address the needs of customers, especially those in areas such as commercial travel and long-distance transportation.
LG's reputation as a reliable EV charger provider is growing, thanks to its manufacturing capabilities, quality control, and after-sales service. The company believes that, by emphasizing its differentiated offerings, including control and advertising solutions, it will strengthen its market position in the EV charging solutions business over the mid- to long-term.
Furthermore, LG aims to tap into diverse EV charging demands from various businesses and facilities, including hotels, shopping malls, retail stores, gas stations, and parking garages, to fuel future growth.
“By establishing our EV charger production factory in Texas, we will be able to actively respond to the rapidly growing demand for EV infrastructure in the U.S.,” said Jang Ik-hwan, president of the LG Business Solutions Company. “LG is dedicated to delivering uncompromising quality and will offer customers reliable EV charging solutions that combine efficient charger units with advanced control systems.”
