Hanwha Ocean has received an order for two Very Large Ammonia Carriers (VLACs) from an Oceania-based shipowner for approximately KRW 3,312 billion. This is the seventh order for VLACs in the last two months.
The ammonia carriers ordered by Hanwha Ocean are capable of transporting 93,000 cubic meters of ammonia. In particular, the vessel will be equipped with Hanwha SmartShip Solution & Service (HS4), a smart ship platform developed by Hanwha Ocean, as well as the company's eco-friendly technologies, including the latest carbon-reducing technology, Shaft Generator Motor (SGM). The vessel will be built at the Geoje facility and delivered to the shipowner by the second half of 2027.
Hanwha Ocean is focusing on developing alternative fuels and eco-friendly technologies to lead the way in the era of carbon-free ships. The company plans to gradually reduce greenhouse gas emissions and eventually commercialize zero-carbon ships with ammonia propulsion, direct hydrogen propulsion, and hydrogen fuel cell propulsion.
"The continuous orders for eco-friendly carriers are a testament to the market's strong faith in Hanwha Ocean's technology," said an official from Hanwha Ocean. "Through continuous technology development, we will set the standard for advanced eco-friendly shipbuilding technology."
