SK Telecom announced that, in collaboration with Intel, it has successfully developed technology to reduce communication delays necessary for the evolution of 6G Core Architecture.

The Core network acts as the central hub for all voice and data traffic from mobile devices to access the Internet. It ensures security and service quality by interconnecting various systems within the mobile communication service.

6G Core Architecture demands heightened flexibility, safety, and the integration of intelligent and automated technologies to deliver stable AI services. As the Core network evolves, the complexity of its systems and functions increases exponentially, leading to potential communication delays.

Addressing these challenges, SK Telecom and Intel developed Inline Service Mesh technology, leveraging Intel Xeon processors with embedded AI capabilities. This innovation accelerates communication within the Core network by minimizing latency between unit functions, eliminating the need for proxies.

By deploying this technology, AI applications requiring extensive computation can be seamlessly integrated into the Core network, enhancing service quality. SK Telecom has already commercialized solutions reducing wireless resource usage by 40% and improving connectivity through real-time analysis of user movement patterns.

The collaboration aims to reduce communication delays by 70% and enhance service efficiency by 33% within the Core network, paving the way for the application of 6G Core Architecture. SK Telecom plans to incorporate these advancements into commercial equipment next year, supported by a comprehensive technical white paper detailing the technology's development and benefits.

This achievement builds upon a decade-long collaboration between SK Telecom and Intel in advancing key mobile communication technologies. Moving forward, the companies intend to further research and develop traffic processing enhancements incorporating AI across various Core network domains.

"We have made another technical achievement through continuous technology development cooperation with Intel to secure leadership in  6G," said Yu Takki, Vice President and Head of Infra Tech at SKT. "We will continue our research and make efforts to commercialize AI-based 6G Core Architecture.”

"Our research and development efforts with SK Telecom continue to deliver innovations that have been deployed by Communications Service Providers worldwide”, said Dan Rodriguez, Corporate Vice President of Intel Network & Edge Solutions Group.  “By leveraging the latest Intel Xeon processors with built in AI features, our companies are able to drive both performance and efficiency improvements that will be vital to the future Core networks.
