Samsung Electronics has announced that eight product series from its 2024 Neo QLED 4K and 8K, OLED, and The Frame lineups have received the prestigious "Product Carbon Reduction" certification from TÜV Rheinland, an international independent third-party testing, inspection, and certification organization.

This certification underscores the carbon footprint reduction ratio of these products compared to the previous year's models, showcasing Samsung's commitment to reducing carbon emissions year-over-year.

“As the world’s leading TV manufacturer, it is our responsibility to create products that both redefine TV capabilities while advancing sustainability efforts,” said Yongjae Kim, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics.

“Congratulations to Samsung Electronics. The issuance of Product Carbon Reduction certification demonstrates Samsung’s commitment to environmental sustainability and its actual implementation efforts to reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change,” said Frank Holzmann, Global Vice President of TÜV Rheinland Business Field Electrical. “This recognition will undoubtedly enhance the brand’s reputation and customer trust, further solidifying its position as a leading player in the global electronics market.”

TÜV Rheinland conducted a comprehensive evaluation of greenhouse gas emissions for Samsung’s TV products throughout their entire life cycle, adhering to internationally recognized standards such as ISO 14067 and ISO 14064-4, along with TÜV Rheinland’s self-developed standard 2 PfG Q2880/09.23.

The certification verifies that all eight TV product series meet the carbon reduction standard requirement set by TÜV Rheinland, covering manufacturing, transportation, use, and disposal stages.

In addition to the product certification, Samsung’s Visual Display Business secured the industry's first "Product Carbon Footprint Calculation Method" certification from TÜV Rheinland. This certification underscores Samsung's commitment to measuring and managing greenhouse gas emissions throughout a product's complete life cycle, ensuring transparency and reproducibility in results.

Looking ahead, Samsung aims to achieve TÜV Rheinland’s "Product Carbon Footprint" and "Product Carbon Reduction" certifications for over 60 models in 2024, including newly introduced soundbars. The carbon reduction results and analysis report of these eight product series provide Samsung with valuable insights for the development and design of the next generation of decarbonized TV products.

This recognition builds on previous acknowledgments of Samsung’s sustainability efforts. In 2021, Samsung obtained its first "Reducing CO2" certification from the Carbon Trust for Neo QLED 4K and higher resolution TVs. Subsequently, in 2022, 11 TV models and five monitor and signage products achieved the "Reducing CO2" certification. Most recently, 24 models across Samsung’s 2023 lineup were certified by both the Carbon Trust and TÜV Rheinland, further solidifying Samsung's commitment to sustainability.
