Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) and the international aid organization BetterWorld have been conducting volunteer activities in Warsaw, Poland, and Konin City, a proposed nuclear power plant site involving KHNP, since January 30.
A total of 30 volunteers, including 24 domestic and foreign university students and six KHNP employees, are participating in the program, which runs through February 6, making 600 lunch boxes for the elderly, homeless, and vulnerable in the area, and performing cultural performances such as taekwondo, pungmul, and K-pop dance at Warsaw University, elementary and secondary schools in Konin, and NGO organizations. They also donated a total of 13 million won in sponsorships to three schools.
Kim Eun-soo, head of KHNP's social contribution department, said, "Through this volunteer activity, I feel that we have become one step closer to the local people in Poland," and added, "We will strive to continue the exchange."
The local residents of Konin, Poland, responded favorably to the traditional Korean cultural performances such as taekwondo, saying that it was an opportunity to get to know Korea and Hansuwon better.
KHNP is committed to maintaining friendly relations with Poland, including conducting volunteer activities in Poland for the first time in 2023.
Meanwhile, KHNP signed a letter of intent (LOI) with Polish private power producers ZE PAK and PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE) in late October 2022 to build a new Korean nuclear power plant in Poland.
