BBQ accelerates its Latin American expansion with the opening of an additional store in Costa Rica, following last year's opening.
Genesis BBQ Group, South Korea's largest chicken franchise, announced on February 7 that it has opened a BBQ China Town restaurant in Chinatown, located in the Costa Rican capital city of San Jose.
The store is located at the beginning of Chinatown in the center of downtown San Jose. San Jose's Chinatown is a popular tourist area with restaurants and grocery stores serving local Chinese cuisine. Attractions such as the National Museum of Costa Rica and the National Theater are also nearby, adding to the foot traffic.
The Chinatown branch is a 182-square-meter BBQ village that serves chicken dishes such as golden olive chicken and marinated chicken, as well as various K-foods such as rosé tteokbokki and kimchi fried rice.
The lunch combo is especially popular among students and office workers at the nearby National University of San José, who can enjoy chicken for lunch. The lunch combo, which is only available at the Costa Rica store, consists of six pieces of boneless chicken, fries, and a cola. There are 13 types of chicken to choose from, including golden olive chicken and secret spice chicken.
"The lunch combo set, which is only available in Costa Rica, has become so popular among locals that we were able to open a third store in less than half a year." said an official from BBQ. "We will continue to introduce various menus that satisfy customers according to local characteristics."
Meanwhile, BBQ currently operates more than 700 restaurants in 57 countries around the world, including Costa Rica, the United States, Canada, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan, and Japan. Building on its exponential growth DNA in North America, BBQ plans to expand into Latin America this year, including Costa Rica and Panama.
