Mirae Asset Global Investments said Feb. 8 that the MiraeAsset TIGER US PHLX Semiconductor Sector Nasdaq ETF has surpassed 1.75 trillion won in net assets, up more than 300 billion won in the last three months.
According to the Korea Exchange, the MiraeAsset TIGER US PHLX Semiconductor Sector Nasdaq ETF had net assets of 1.758 trillion won as of the close of trading on Feb. 7. This is the first time its net assets exceeded 1.75 trillion won, a 126-fold increase from 14 billion won when it was listed in 2021. It is the largest among all 29 semiconductor investment ETFs listed in Korea.
MiraeAsset TIGER US PHLX Semiconductor Sector Nasd ETF tracks the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index. The index is comprised of 30 major global non-memory semiconductor companies, including Nvidia, AMD, and Qualcomm, and is globally representative of the global semiconductor industry.
Since its inception in 1993, the index has shown a long-term upward trend in line with the growth of the semiconductor industry. In particular, in 2023, the index recorded a one-year return of 64.9% amid the ChatGPT craze, and continued its upward trend, reaching a record high in January.
Meanwhile, the MiraeAsset TIGER US PHLX Semiconductor Sector Nasd ETF, a representative ETF for semiconductor investment, has been attracting high interest from retail investors based on the high growth of the semiconductor industry. As of February 7, the cumulative net purchases by individuals amounted to KRW 808.4 billion.
"The momentum of the global AI semiconductor industry is expected to continue as the field of on-device AI has recently gained renewed attention following generative AI," said Kim Ji-yeon, Senior Manager of ETF Management at Mirae Asset Global Investments. "The MiraeAsset TIGER US PHLX Semiconductor Sector Nasda ETF, which invests in the relevant value chain, will be an efficient investment vehicle for investors who expect growth in the semiconductor industry."
