Asahi Kasei Microdevices Corporation (AKM) has introduced the CZ39 series of coreless current sensors, revolutionizing electric vehicle (EV) applications. With mass production starting on February 28, the CZ39 series offers unparalleled advantages for onboard charging systems, including fast response times, reduced heat generation, and enhanced noise immunity.

Fast Current Measurements:
The CZ39 series boasts a high-sensitivity compound Hall element, enabling a rapid response time of 100ns. This capability ensures that current measurements can match the high switching speeds of silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) based power solutions. Consequently, OEMs can leverage smaller, lighter on-board charging systems, extending the EVs' cruising range. Moreover, the CZ39 series facilitates robust electronic fuse implementation by swiftly signaling the interruption of current flow during overcurrent conditions.

Reduced Heat Generation:
AKM has engineered a unique package for the CZ39 series, achieving a remarkably low primary conductor resistance of 0.3mΩ. Even under continuous 40Arms current flow at an ambient temperature of 125ºC, the heat generation remains minimal. This feature significantly reduces the necessity for bulky thermal management measures. Additionally, the package structure ensures sufficient creepage and clearance distances for applications exceeding 650V.

Enhanced Noise Immunity:
The CZ39 family excels in mitigating electrical noise, crucial for addressing the challenges posed by high voltage and high-speed switching in SiC- and GaN-based systems. Its exceptional resilience to noisy environments ensures continuous, high-accuracy current detection, enhancing overall system reliability.

The CZ39 series current sensor by Asahi Kasei Microdevices marks a significant advancement in EV technology, enabling the development of substantially smaller, lighter, and more efficient on-board charging systems. With its fast response times, minimal heat generation, and superior noise immunity, the CZ39 series paves the way for the widespread adoption of electric vehicles, driving innovation in the automotive industry.
