Doosan Enerbility announced on March 7 that it held a gas and hydrogen turbine manufacturing site visit event at its Changwon headquarters, attended by Chairman Ji-Won Park, Vice President of Power Service BG Seung-Woo Son, Doosan Corporation CSO Dowon Kim, Doosan Corporation CFO Min-Cheol Kim, and other key executives.

The event was organized to inspect the current status of hydrogen turbines being developed based on gas turbines ahead of the expansion of gas turbine orders.

Doosan Enerbility began developing large-scale gas turbines for power generation in 2013 and completed the fifth in the world in 2019. Since then, the first gas turbine supplied to the Gimpo Cogeneration Power Plant was successfully put into commercial operation in July last year, securing its reliability.

Based on this, the company has won contracts to supply gas turbines for the Boryeong New Combined Cycle Power Plant in 2023 and the Andong Combined Cycle Power Plant in 2024. Doosan Enerbility plans to accelerate its business with the goal of winning more than KRW 7 trillion in domestic orders over the next five years.

The company is also accelerating the development of hydrogen turbines utilizing its original gas turbine technology. Since 2020, it has been developing a 50 percent hydrogen mixing technology for high-efficiency H-class hydrogen turbines as a national project of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of South Korea, and plans to demonstrate the technology at the Ulsan Combined Cycle Power Plant of Korea East & West Power.

In addition, Doosan Enerbility is developing the world's first ultra-large-scale 400 MW hydrogen all-combustion turbine with a target date of 2027. The H-class hydrogen turbine will save approximately 46 billion won in fuel costs and reduce carbon emissions by about 50,000 tons per year compared to the existing hydrogen turbine (E-class).

"This year will be the first year of full-scale expansion of orders for the K-gas turbine, which has been developed by more than 340 domestic industry-academia-research institutes," said Park Ji-won, chairman of Doosan Enerbility. "With the confidence and technology gained from the success of gas turbine development, Doosan Enerbility will position itself as a global leader in the field of hydrogen turbines, which are emerging as a highly efficient and carbon-free power generation technology."
