The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy(MOTIE) and KOTRA will hold the Global Medical Equipment Plaza 2024 (GMEP 2024) in conjunction with the KIMES 2024 International Medical Device and Hospital Facility Exhibition at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul for two days starting on the 14th of this month.

This export consultation meeting is designed to find new growth engines by expanding the exports of domestic medical device companies. The consultation meeting will be attended by 143 promising medical device buyers from 40 countries around the world and 320 domestic companies, with a total of 1,800 export consultations. In addition, 18 export contracts worth a total of $10 million will be signed on the spot in various fields such as robotic surgical equipment and imaging diagnostic equipment.

In addition, the "Innovative Medical Device Company Showcase" prepared at the consultation center in cooperation with the Pan-Ministry Electric Medical Device Research and Development Project Group will showcase Korea's advanced medical technology and digital healthcare technology to buyers. It is expected to attract buyers' attention as it consists of products and technologies from innovative companies selected for research and development support by the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Ministry of Industry, and the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, such as AI-based diagnostic devices and digital healthcare commercialization.

"GMEP 2024 is the only domestic event where you can meet buyers specializing in medical devices from various countries such as Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America," said G, a Korean company that participated in the export consultation. "The goal is to achieve export results from this event."

In addition, Jung Oi-young, head of KOTRA's Innovative Growth Division, said, "Growth opportunities for the domestic medical device industry are expanding due to digital transformation and demographic changes in the global market," adding, "KOTRA will actively support the search for future growth engines by expanding export opportunities for domestic medical devices."

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Industry and KOTRA will support the creation of export results by promoting various support projects such as follow-up consultations and delegations for domestic companies participating in this export consultation. In addition, through seven newly promoted "K-Biodesk" locations this year, it plans to strengthen on-site support such as overseas certification and regulation, customs clearance, and export marketing in the bio-health sector.
