LG Magna e-Powertrain, the collaborative effort between LG Electronics and Magna International, announced its attainment of the Cyber Security Management System (CSMS, ISO/SAE 21434:2021) certification from the esteemed global certification body, TÜV Rheinland.

This certification underscores LG Magna's steadfast adherence to pertinent vehicle cybersecurity regulations and standards, showcasing its implementation of a comprehensive security framework spanning component design, development, post-development cybersecurity practices, and management.

As automotive cybersecurity emerges as a paramount concern in the mobility sector, with the impending enforcement of WP.29 UNECE R155 cybersecurity regulations, LG Magna's certification becomes even more pivotal.

Commencing from July 2024, all vehicles manufactured by automotive Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) must align with the newly established suite of cybersecurity management regulations to secure type approval. Such approval is imperative for marketing vehicles in 56 countries, encompassing EU member states, the UK, Japan, and South Korea.

Countries that have adopted these regulations mandate automakers to fortify all vehicle components and systems against cybersecurity threats throughout their entire lifecycle. ISO/SAE 21434, an internationally recognized standard addressing vehicle cybersecurity, delineates the processes for instituting and sustaining cybersecurity measures from the conceptualization and development phase to vehicle production, maintenance, and disposal stages.

In response, LG Magna has erected a robust cybersecurity framework to cater to the escalating demands of global automakers for cutting-edge, highly secure vehicle components.

The company has meticulously crafted a comprehensive cybersecurity protocol that is systematically applied and updated throughout each product's lifecycle. This protocol encompasses the identification and assessment of product security threats, along with the formulation of requisite response strategies in accordance with ISO/SAE 21434 guidelines.

Furthermore, LG Magna has implemented risk monitoring systems and expedited issue remediation processes to further bolster its cybersecurity posture.

LG continues its expansion within the global automotive components and solutions market. With its Vehicle Component Solutions (VS) Company acknowledged for its prowess in in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems, LG Magna distinguishes itself through its expertise in electric vehicle powertrains, complemented by ZKW's leadership in advanced vehicle lighting systems.

“With vehicle cyberattacks on the rise, the demand from automakers for component solutions that ensure robust cybersecurity is growing at a rapid pace,” said LG Magna CEO Cheong Won-suk. “As a major global vehicle parts supplier, LG Magna aims to proactively address any security vulnerabilities and continuously strengthen its systems and processes.”
