Satellite Business Gets Serious

Kornic Systems announced that it has begun work in the satellite parts manufacturing and supply business by holding a satellite business launching ceremony in the head office at Dongtan, Korea, on December 4. President of Korea Aerospace Research Institute Paik Hong-yul, Vice President of Korea Aerospace Industries Association Jung Jin-Dae, Director of the Small and Medium Business Administration Sim Dong-Sub and additional members attended and emphasized the positive future for Kornic Systems in the satellite business.

Kornic Systems set to work on the Image Data Handling Unit (IDHU) assembly in its 3rd factory clean room in accordance with the Joint Venture Agreement on satellite parts development work with UBIAN. They organized a joint planning team with KARI for successful assembly of a New IDHU as UBIAN completed the manufacture of Electronic Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) for Arirang 3, which is still undergoing testing at KARI.

Additionally, 8 technical researchers in Kornic Systems took part in the technical satellite test for Arirang 3 and Arirang 5 in order to set to work on the assembly and manufacture for the new satellites.

Kornic Systems has been signing contracts for sales amounting to five billion won since 2007as a result of promoting their satellite parts development work. They are strengthening the competitiveness of their GPS phone ranked at number one in the field of a manufacturing technology. In 2007, the Ministry of Knowledge Economy selected their satellite phone as a global leading good due to over 250 thousand export units and export sales amounting to over $90 million in Europe and the Middle East. In the same way, they also made an additional contract for sales amounting to $72 million this December.

Kornic Systems is looking forward to branch out on the global market by uniting with mobile communications such as WiMAX, TETRA, and GSM by enhancing their satellite telecommunications functions. They expect to make over 5 billion won in 2010 and 10 billion won in 2012 as a result of this.

Kornic Systems is also trying to obtain official permission in order to begin satellite communication service work. The stationary orbit satellite communication service will be introduced for the first time in Korea after they get permission. This communication service is widely known as the essential communication system for securing the safety under all unexpected emergency situations such as earthquakes, floods, typhoons, and wars.
