The Internet economy in Russia is likely to hit a rapid growth spurt in the next four years, a report by Google said. Between 2011 and 2015, Internet commerce in Russia is expected to jump from 1.6 percent of gross domestic product to 3.7 percent, The Moscow Times reported Saturday.
In 2009, Internet commerce in Russia was valued at $19 billion. It is the second-largest Internet economy in Europe after Germany, the Times said. The report said Internet growth of 22 percent to 30 percent per year could be expected if Russia expands the areas where the Internet is available.
