VMAX Telecom is a joint venture between Taiwan’s two leading telecom corporations, Tecom and Vibo Telecom. Last year, the joint venture acquired the National Communications Commission (NCC) certified WiMAX license for the northern region of Taiwan.
According to VMAX Telecom, the initial installation and trial service will first be launched in Taipei City and will be expanded to six other major regions. In 2009, VMAX Telecom plans to provide commercial mobile WiMAX service. For this, Samsung is providing a mobile WiMAX total solution including base stations, access service network gateways and all the related equipment and services.
Teddy Huang, the President and CEO of VMAX, said: ”WiMAX is bound to create new horizons in the existing mobile broadband market. It will be the key for a rich entertaining experience. I’m sure that Samsung Electronics will give more convenience and comfort to Taiwanese people.”
The Taiwanese government is working on the M-Taiwan initiative, a project which aims to enhance Taiwan’s leadership position in WiMAX developments. Also the Taiwanese government shows positive movements such as preparing a meeting between Taiwanese vendors and global telecom operators who already has a mobile WiMAX silence and encouraging many Taiwanese device providers to develop and launch various types of mobile WiMAX terminals.
MADA is one of the Kuwait’s foremost telecom service providers. It supplies communication solutions and system integration services. MADA obtained a license for Mobile WiMAX service in Jordan, Sudan and Kuwait.
According to MADA, mobile WiMAX network deployment will begin in Kuwait-city from February of 2009 and is planning to expand nationwide until 2010. MADA will launch its first mobile WiMAX commercial service in Q1 2009 with customer-centric services such as wireless internet access, VoIP. For this, Samsung is providing mobile WiMAX solution including base stations, access service network gateways and all the related equipments as well as services in 2.5 GHz frequency.
MADA and Samsung are also planning to strengthen bilateral cooperation in Middle East and Africa including Jordan, Sudan, etc. for mobile WiMAX business.

Samsung has already achieved numerous accomplishments in deployment of Mobile WiMAX technology around the globe. Currently Samsung provides Mobile WiMAX commercial equipment in total of 10 countries, including USA, Japan, Taiwan, Russia, Lithuania, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Brazil, Venezuela, and Republic of Korea. Starting from the first commercialization of Mobile WiMAX service in Korean market in June of 2006, Samsung also now provides service in partnership with Sprint-Nextel in US, Scartel in Russia, Mobily in Saudi Arabia and Omnivison in Venezuela.
