GM Korea Company executives today highlighted the success of Chevrolet in the six months since its introduction in the domestic market on March 1. They also outlined further steps that are planned to aggressively expand the presence of its flagship brand in Korea.

"Driven by the strong market response to Chevrolet and its lineup of cars as well as our industry-best customer service, GM Korea's year-on-year sales over the past six months have risen 27 percent," said Mike Arcamone, President and CEO of GM Korea. "We expect domestic demand to maintain its rapid pace of growth."

The image of Chevrolet, one of the world's fastest-growing vehicle brands, has experienced great improvement in Korea. According to a nationwide survey conducted by GM Korea, 98 percent of respondents were aware of Chevrolet and 55 percent would consider buying a Chevrolet vehicle.

"The market response to the 100-year-old Chevrolet brand in Korea has exceeded our expectations," said Ankush Arora, GM Korea Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Aftersales. "Chevrolet's success has coincided with the aggressive launch of six models in a short period of time and the roll out of a series of innovative aftersales programs such as 357 Chevy Care."

To support its new brand, GM Korea carried out the remodeling of its nationwide Chevrolet sales and service networks while completing the formation of its domestic dealer system. The company is focused on offering the best customer experience through creative services that local vehicle owners have never before experienced.

"We have a solid plan for the ongoing introduction of new Chevrolet products in the domestic market," said Arcamone. "The Malibu, Chevrolet's new global midsize sedan, will soon be launched in Korea before any other market. This will enable us to achieve a more solid brand stance and bolster our sales."

Also on the agenda are the development of more eco-friendly vehicles and the fulfillment of the company's five-year plan. GM Korea introduced a Cruze electric vehicle test fleet last year and the Volt this year as part of its commitment to the development of next-generation technology in coordination with General Motors.

Founded in 1911 and named after famous Swiss-born race car driver Louis Chevrolet, Chevrolet is celebrating its centennial this year. Chevrolet is one of GM's four core brands and its largest global brand. More than 4.2 million Chevrolets were sold in 130 countries in 2010. Chevrolet accounted for 53 percent of GM's unit sales last year.

GM Korea played a lead role in the design, engineering and manufacture of the Chevrolet Cruze global compact sedan, the new Chevrolet Spark global mini-car and the new Chevrolet Aveo global small car.
