Name
A fable for the Digital Age Cheol-soo, who has been working in Seoul for the last five years, is on his way to his hometown because it is day of Seollal, New Year's Day by the traditional Korean lunar calendar. It has been a long time since he visited his hometown. And, he is even more excited because he is going to his hometown with his girlfriend, whom he will marry, in a new car he has bought recently. Cheol-soo's hometown is a small country village. Ordinarily, it takes about 3 hours by car to get there from Seoul. The traffic is congested today because many people are going to their hometowns. Cheol-soo is not particularly worried, though, because a system for receiving ground wave Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) has been installed in his new car. So, his girlfriend sitting next to him is not bored. She is happy watching a rerun of the drama she was not able to see yesterday. Because of the congestion, Cheol-soo watches the broadcasts and uses a traffic information service. At his command, the service searches for, and eventually finds national road detours. Also, it gives information on gas stations and restaurants on the way. So, Cheol-soo gasses up and dines at a stop on the detour. Then he is happily en route to his hometown again. But, suddenly, his girlfriend panics, saying that she left her presents that she was going to give to Cheol-soo's parents at home. In response, Cheol-soo tells her to pick an article she likes among the goods appearing in the drama she is watching. Puzzled, she chooses a massager. Cheol-soo selects the massager and looks at the detailed information that appears. After checking the price and the time of delivery, he purchases the massager with his credit card via his cellular phone. When his card is billed, there is an additional fee for using his cellular phone. His girlfriend feels relieved. She has lots of nice things to say about new car Cheol-soo has bought which has the ground wave DMB system. They arrive at Cheol-soo's hometown in nearly 3 hours. Cheol-soo introduces his girlfriend to his parents. Everyone is very happy. At the same time, the massager Cheol-soo has purchased is delivered shortly afterwards, making Cheol-soo's parents even happier.
