IPAK held “The Advisory Committee for the 23rd Global Software Contest Exhibit” on October 21st.

The Information Technology Professionals Association of Korea (IPAK, President: Cho Sung-kap) held "The Advisory Committee for the 23rd Global Software Contest Exhibit" on October 21st in the Banker's Club located in the Korea Federation of Banks Hall with 16 related figures present such as Chariman of the President's Council on Informational Strategies Lee Kark-bum, former KT Vice Chairman Seok Ho-ik, and former Minister of Information and Communication Yang Seung-taek (IST Consortium Representative). 

This year being the 23rd event, "The Global Software Contest Exhibit" is open for everyone including domestic and foreign software companies, the general public and students and has as its objective finding outstanding software development talents, promoting development, and expanding supplies of new software technologies and application techniques by discovering and awarding new software. Organized by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy and hosted by the National IT Promotion Agency and the IT Professional Association of Korea, 34 works will be evaluated and selected for awards from the prestigious President's Award to the Director General's Award, in which the award ceremony will be held on Thursday, November 24th.

The chairman of the awarding committee Professor Jung Jin-wook of Sungkyunkwan University mentioned during the contest exhibit progress report that a total of 145 works including 14 from 5 countries overseas were submitted and after the initial documentation screening, the secondary PT screening is now under way, and also elaborated on the outcome and the additional follow-up plans related to expansion and reorganization of the Global Contest Exhibit.

Lee Kark-bum, the head of this contest exhibit, in his greeting said, "I hope the Global Software Contest Exhibit will develop into the gateway for future talents in the software industry who will become the foundation for the global competitiveness of domestic software industry," and requested  cooperation from those in the advisory committee for a successful contest.

Former Minister of Information and Communication Yang Seung-taek pointed out that "We must support education of simple techniques(coding) exclusively for software development, increase thinking for algorithms (idea), and extensively develop curriculum at universities that can run parallel with technical (coding) training," and continued to say, "I hope the Global Software Contest Exhibit will put its best efforts into arranging opportunities of discovering such creative talents." Following was the presentation of the Advisory Committee Plaque from Chairman Lee Kark-bum to the Head of the Korea Internet Security Agency Seo Jong-ryeol.

 

There was an in-depth exchange of views on the future direction of the software industry as well as expansion and reorganization of the Global Software Contest Exhibit between key persons from  businesses, schools, government branches and associations in the IT sector such as EBS President Kwak Deok-hoon, Lotte Data Communication Company President Oh Kyeong-su, POSCO ICT Vice President Lee In-bong, HP Executive Director Kim Han-ho, MS Korea Director Ho Woong-gi, Pyeonghwa ICT Vice President Shin Dong-ik, IT Professional Association of Korea Corp. Advisor Cho I-nam and a Professor at Korea University Kim Hyeong-jung.
