The Ssangyong Motor Company began its high-speed multimedia-based telematics service 'Everway' in collaboration with KTF in late February this year. The name Everway implies that the service enables you to go wherever you want, whenever, both easily and conveniently. Based on the 'EV-DO' high-speed wireless communication network, which can transmit wireless data at a maximum rate of 2.4Mbps, Everway is a next-generation telematics service through which an in-car multimedia service is available domestically, Ssangyong Motor said. The Company plans to expand the range of models in which Everway is available. It is currently available on the New Rexton. An executive responsible for the telematics service at Ssangyong Motor explains that the company's differentiated telematics service offers real-time traffic information including a map-referenced locational service, daily living information of all kinds (stocks/news/ weather reports), information on the country's 135 golf courses, guidance by reference to the telephone number of a caller, and a cellular phone-based vehicle control service (door opening and closing function, car condition plus location confirmation). The Everway package also includes the following telematics services: emergency rescue service, various content services such as news, weather, and stock reports, and e-mail. The initial fee for the Everway service is 30,000 won. A Ssangyong spokesperson said, "Everway is a next-generation telematics service, which allows an automobile, a mere means of moving from point to point, to be recreated as a complex life space by providing users with various contents through the EV-DO high-speed communication network in which multimedia service is possible." KTF, an Everway partner of Ssangyong Motor Company, plays a central role in delivering the telematics service by its development of the communication network service, operation of an information center, and so forth. Ssangyong Motor Company is jointly developing terminals with Hyundai and to enable Everway to interface with Hyundai's Autonet telematics service. KTF's telematics service Everway is available at the Everyway customer center (1577-1572) or through the Everway homepage (www.everway.co.kr). Everway's edge is that its speed is faster than other services by adopting CDMA2000 1x EVDO as its main communication network.
