While people are exercising or walking around in the rain, cotton socks may easily get wet and not dry quickly. However, if socks are made of ultrafine fibers instead of cotton, they dry quickly, even while being exposed to moisture. Developed by Hyung Ji Produce, the ultrafine fibers for socks are not only practical but also comfortable as they are soft and light as silk. Since its establishment in 1996, the company has specialized in the production of various types of yarns and obtained a multitude of patents related to new designs for practical use. With its knowhow and experience in the yarn industry, the company received ‘an award for promising SMEs’ from Gwangju City.
Smart Yarn
Besides the ultrafine fibers, the company has produced other types of yarns for practical use. As the usage of smart phones is increasing, many people find it inconvenient to touch the screen with their gloves on in the cold weather. However, when the gloves are made of smart yarn developed by Hyung Ji Produce, they enable people to use the touch screen without the hassle of first removing their gloves.
Export to the US market
Producing over 100 kinds of yarns, the company has gained in popularity, particularly in the US market which accounts for half of total sales. Each year, 150 tons of yarns made into socks have been exported internationally. Its export sales reached USD 1.3 million last year out of the total sales of USD 1.7 million, and the company expects to see USD 2 million in sales this year. “We are not as big as large yarn companies, but we have the longest history among SMEs and also have the added strength of swiftness and customization. With continuous research and development in new yarn design, we will continue to develop fibers based on functional materials that are eco-friendly,” the company stated.
