The government has decided to issue a total of 1 trillion won in science technology national bonds until 2009. The Ministry of Planning & Budget has finalized the 2006 projects to be supported by the issuance of science technology national bonds after consultations with relevant ministries, including the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. Under the project, 67.3 percent of the total or 151.5 billion won ($154.6 million) will go to the next-generation growth engine products.
About 119.4 billion won will go to the bio new medicine long-term project of the Ministry of Science and Technology, 14.3 billion won ($14.6 million) to the nextgeneration new technology development project of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and 2.3 trillion won to the midterm stronghold technology development project of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
Besides, about 40 billion won ($40.8 million) will be spent for investment in science technology investment fund of the Ministry of Science and Technology, 6.5 billion won ($6.6 million) for one-body nuclear reactor technology development of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and 7.2 billion ($7.3 million) for construction of future-oriented marine transportation system of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.
