Optomagic, an optical fiber-specialized subsidiary of Taihan Electric Wire, and KIST jointly developed porous optical fiber for the first time in Korea. Porous optical fiber is superior to existing optical fiber in terms of bend characteristic.
The existing optical fiber can be used only when the bend radius is over 30mm, but porous optical fiber can maintain optical characteristic in the status of the bend radius of 2.5mm.
Accordingly, porous optical fiber can be used for coil-type optical communication cable such as telephone line.
Optomagic and KIST jointly applied for a patent of their manufacturing technology related to porous optical fiber.
