SmartEdge Service Gateway enables Internet and VoIP services over WiMAX in French Overseas Territories Redback Networks Inc. (NASDAQ: RBAK), a leading provider of broadband networking systems, announced recently that XTS Telecom has selected Redback's SmartEdgeA Service Gateway for deployment in their next-generation broadband network infrastructure. XTS Telecom's new high-speed network is based on WiMAX wireless access technology and will support advanced broadband services. The services will be available across the French islands of Reunion, Martinique, and Guadeloupe where XTS plans to use the Redback SmartEdge Service Gateway systems' carrier class Ethernet capabilities to connect to the WiMAX base stations. To enable XTS Telecom to offer highly personalized services including VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), the SmartEdge Service Gateway integrates the functions of subscriber management, carrier class Ethernet aggregation and edge routing.
