KT WiBro KT taking the initiative in diffusing WiBro service globally Following the Internet revolution sparked by the high-speed Internet, it is widely predicted that the second Internet revolution will happen in the wireless market through WiBro (Wireless Broadband). KT which has selected WiBro as one of the future new growth engines and has been systematically doing its commercialization preparations, including diverse service development by beefing up cooperation with collaboration companies alongside of equipment and technology development, is poised to provide commercial service for the first time globally. In comparison with competing companies, Jeong Kwan-young, vice president, Business Planning Department, Mobile Internet Business Group, KT, is confident that KT is assessed to hold an advantage in the WiBro field. He pointed out that the company can reduce investment cost and maximize synergy effect by concentrating capacities KT Group possessed such as nationwide wire infrastructure and distribution network, high-speed Internet operation experience & KTF's wireless infra as well as distribution network, plus KTH's content. During the Wireless Broadband World Forum 2006 held at the Lotte World Seoul at the end of May, 2006, KT is planning to cooperate jointly for the sake of WiBro's global spread through global roaming belt construction and business model excavation by building a global council with telecommunication business providers which have decided to introduce WiBro or are considering its introduction. The vice president said that KT, which is offering commercial service for the first time globally, plans to take the leadership of WiBro service's global diffusion as the company serves as the hub of the overseas global roaming belt construction by continuously strengthening cooperation with overseas telecommunication business providers. In the interests of the market's early activation, KT will first of all provide users with seamless wire/wireless integration service by connecting with established businesses such as Megapass, Nespot, & CDMA (voice) that hold supplementary features with WiBro, according to Jeong. He has committed to increase customer's service usage convenience and to activate content as well as the service market by developing in priority multimedia/convergence model service and the core BM (MMS, LBS, game etc.) which correspond to customer needs. Jeong further revealed KT's plan that the company would advance content differentiation as well as Win-Win collaboration between content and service by excavating a variety of content which meets to WiBro feature based on established wire/wireless Internet and by constructing organic production, circulation and supply system between content and service. In consideration of the wired/wireless integration environment, the Mobile Internet Business veteran notes that KT will provide pan-KT dimension's convergence service so that customers can use diverse service conveniently and at a reasonable price by offering complex terminal of diverse forms combined with CDMA, DMB etc. He stressed that KT would strive proactively so that WiBro can strike root as a next-generation growth engine by maximizing its telecommunication business capacity and WiBro's synergy and by creating new wire/wireless integration service market. In conjunction with KT's WiBro globalization, the vice president explained that in the case of WiBro which will be commercialized soon for the first time in Korea globally, associated products are forecast to get international certification through the WiMAX Forum. Providing WiBro is activated in Korea on the foothold of standardization and product certification like this, he said that it is forecasted that even more countries will come to introduce WiBro to say nothing of Europe, Southeast Asia and South America 10 countries which are considering WiBro's introduction at the moment. He concluded his remarks by emphasizing confidently that Korea, which led global IT technology in the fields of high-speed Internet and CDMA mobile telephone, would be able to spearhead world technology in wireless Broadband field as well through WiBro.
