SEOUL,KOREA - SK Engineering & Construction said on December 17 that it has won a construction order to build a refinery and a terminal in Jazan, a city located in the southwest of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The US$1.1-billion project calls for building a refinery with a daily capacity of 400,000 barrels and a terminal for petroleum storage and shipping facilities. Commissioned by Saudi Arabia's state enterprise Aramco, SK E&C will take charge of the ninth project under EPC (engineering, pocurement, and construction) terms. The construction will be completed by the end of 2016 after 48 months.
Of late, SK E&C has been busy with winning large-scale construction projects. In September, it made deals to build power transmission lines in Singapore (460 billion won) and an electric power sub-stations in Kuwait (520 billion won), followed in November by a project to build a UHV refinery in Thailand (440 billion won).

SK건설, 1조2000억원 정유플랜트·터미널 건설 사우디 프로젝트 수주
K건설은 사우디아라비아에서 11억달러(약 1조2000억원) 규모의 ‘자잔경제도시(JEC) 정유·터미널 프로젝트’를 수주했다고 17일 밝혔다.
이 프로젝트는 사우디아라비아 서남부 자잔경제도시에 하루 40만배럴의 원유를 정제할 수 있는 정유플랜트와 석유제품 저유·출하 터미널을 신설하는 사업이다. 사우디 국영석유회사 아람코가 발주한 것으로, SK건설은 모두 9개 시공 프로젝트 가운데 최대 규모인 9번 프로젝트를 EPC(설계·구매·시공) 턴키공사로 단독 수주했다. 이 프로젝트는 정유공장의 핵심 설비인 상압증류기(CDU)와 감압증류기(VDU)를 설치하고, 정유공장 내 파이프라인과 배출가스 연소탑 등을 신설하는 공사다. 공사기간은 48개월로 2016년 말 준공 예정이다.
SK건설은 최근 들어 해외 대형 프로젝트를 잇따라 수주해왔다. 지난 9월 싱가포르 전력구 공사(4600억원)와 쿠웨이트 변전소 공사(5200억원) 계약을 맺은 데 이어 지난달 태국 UHV정유플랜트(4400억원) 등을 수주했다.
최광철 SK건설 사장은 “내년 초까지 해외 현장에서 5조원을 웃도는 규모의 신규 공사 착공에 들어갈 예정”이라며 “공사를 차질 없이 진행해 해외 플랜트 경쟁력을 다시 한번 인정받는 계기로 삼을 것”이라고 강조했다.
