SEOUL, KOREA - Seoul Metro, the company responsible for running the Seoul Subway Lines 1 to 4, is set to go global with its innovative subway construction technology. The company had agreed in late October with Germany's Vossloh AG to build a railway system in Singapore using its proprietary B2S engineering technology that would make it possible to replace gravel tracks with concrete ones without the need for suspending train operations.
Seoul Metro plans to export the technology once it is proven effective in the Singaporean project. The new technology, according to the state-run corporation, allows it to save construction cost substantially. While it costs an average of 240 million won to build 1 kilometer of railroad track, the B2S technology takes only 190 million won.
The company had already earned patents for the technology with the EU and Germany. It has used the technology in improving sections of Busan Subway Line No. 1 and the Korea Railroad Corp.'s Gwacheon Line.

서울메트로, 지하철 기술 수출
서울 지하철 1~4호선을 운영하는 서울메트로가 지하철 혁신 기술 수출로 세계시장을 넘보고 있다.
서울메트로는 지난 10월 말 자체 개발한 열차 운행을 중단하지 않고 기존 자갈궤도를 콘트리트궤도로 바꾸는 B2S공법을 싱가포르 도시철도에 적용하기 위해 세계적 철도업체인 독일 보슬로사와 양해각서(MOU)를 맺었다. 서울메트로는 싱가포르 도시철도 적용을 통해 기술력을 검증받은 후 다른 국가에도 본격적으로 수출하겠다는 계획이다.
B2S공법은 침목을 고정시킨 궤도용 콘크리트 패널을 만들어 레일체결장치를 연결한 뒤 레일을 철거하지 않고 자갈과 침목만 제거하고 바로 시공할 수 있는 새로운 기법이다. 이 공법을 활용하면 지하철을 계속 운행하면서도 궤도를 개량할 수 있다. 지금까지는 궤도를 개량할 때 일정 기간 열차 운행을 중지하고 작업해왔다.
뿐만 아니라 B2S공법은 궤도 균열이 생기는 다른 공법과 달리 균열이 없고 궤도선형 확보가 쉽기 때문에 안전한 시공과 우수한 품질을 보장해 주는 장점이 있다.
원가도 절감된다. 서울메트로에 따르면 기존 공법은 ㎞당 24억원이 소요되는 데 B2S공법은 ㎞당 19억원이 든다. 서울 지하철 1~4호선 전 노선 궤도를 콘크리트로 개량할 경우 약 1000억원을 절감할 수 있다는 게 서울메트로 측의 설명이다.
B2S공법은 이미 2007년 유럽연합(EU)과 독일의 해외 특허를 취득했다. 또 부산교통공사 1호선과 한국철도공사 과천선 궤도구조개량에 적용돼 기술력을 검증받은 바 있다.
고영환 서울메트로 궤도신호처장은 “앞으로 서울메트로의 자체 개발기술 수출을 싱가포르뿐 아니라 다른 선진국에도 확대해 나갈 계획”이라고 말했다.
