SEOUL, KOREA – As the center of IT demand has shifted into smartphones and smart pads from PCs, competition in the market for application processors (AP), the brain of mobile devices, is heating up. As such, the MWC 2013 will see a large presence of mobile semiconductor companies, as well as terminal manufacturers.
In the mobile semiconductor market led by Global No.1 Qualcomm, Samsung Electronics, NVIDIA, Intel and AMD are briskly releasing their new products featuring lower power consumption.
According to Strategy Analytics (SA), Qualcomm came out on top with a global mobile market share of 43.7% in 2012, followed by Samsung Electronics with 25.3%.
At the MWC 2013, Qualcomm will put up its own exhibition to showcase its new Snapdragon line-up. Qualcomm, which unveiled Snapdragon 800, 600 for high-end devices at the CES 2013, will this time display Snapdragon 400 and 200 for mid-range models.
The commercialization of Snapdragon 800, which will deliver up to 75 percent better performance than the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4, will coincide with the launch of LTE-A, CA-based smartphones.
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics will flaunt the eight-core Exynos 5 Octa, which was known to power the upcoming Galaxy S4.
