SEOUL, KOREA - IBM Korea, one of the largest foreign IT companies in Korea, posted KRW 1.24 trillion in sales last year. While its sales slightly went up, the company made considerable profits.
According to the relevant industry on April 8th, IBM Korea reached KRW 1.24 trillion in sales and KRW 162.5 billion in business profits last year. Its sales increased by 2.8% compared with the previous year while its profits went up by 10%. The company’s net profit last year increased by 16.7% from KRW 130.4 billion in 2011 to KRW 152.2 billion.
Such a sound business performance was possible thanks to the growth made by its lucrative service and software sectors.
The company’s Global Technology Service that handles IT consulting and outsourcing services showed the sales increase by 6.8% to KRW 490.5 billion, accounting for 40% of the total sales of the company.
Its Global Business Service also posted a growth of 12% for the same period. GBS provides business consulting service to corporations. It is known that GBS reached KRW 86.5 billion in sales. The sales of its software sector went up by 2.5% as well.
IBM has tried to transform itself from a computer manufacture into a service provider. Such a strategy is now bearing fruitful results in its business performance.
Meanwhile, IBM Korea’s hardware and financing businesses posted a negative growth.

국내 최대 외국계 IT 기업으로 꼽히는 한국IBM이 지난해 1조2400억원대의 매출을 거둔 것으로 나타났다. 매출은 소폭 증가하는 데 그쳤지만 수익성 향상이 눈에 띈다.
8일 업계에 따르면 한국IBM은 2012년도에 매출 1조2400억원, 영업이익 1625억원을 기록했다. 전년도 대비 매출은 2.8% 증가한 반면 영업이익은 10% 늘었다. 당기순이익도 2011년 1304억원에서 지난해 1522억원으로 16.7% 증가한 것으로 나타났다.
이 같은 실적은 수익성이 높은 서비스 부문과 소프트웨어 성장이 뒷받침한 것으로 풀이된다.
각 부문별 매출을 살피면, IT 컨설팅과 아웃소싱 등을 담당하는 글로벌테크놀로지서비스(GTS)가 전년보다 6.8% 증가했다. GTS 매출은 4905억원을 기록, 전체의 약 40% 비중을 차지했다.
글로벌비즈니스서비스(GBS)도 같은 기간 12% 증가했다. GBS는 기업에 비즈니스 컨설팅을 제공하는 사업이다. 이 분야 매출은 865억원으로 집계됐다. 이 외 소프트웨어 부문도 2.5% 성장했다.
IBM은 컴퓨터 제조업체에서 서비스 업체로 체질 변신을 시도해왔다. 이 같은 전략이 한국 실적에도 반영된 것으로 해석된다.
한편 한국IBM의 하드웨어 사업과 파이낸싱 사업은 마이너스 성장했다.
