SEOUL, KOREA - It is reported that local companies have continued to reduce the portion of logistics costs in comparison with their sales thanks to the improvement of their logistics process.
According to two surveys organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport and conducted by Korea International Trade Association, the portion of logistics costs of manufacturing and wholesale and retail trade firms in comparison with their sales in 2011 dropped to 8.03%, down 0.34%p from 2009. Looking at the same index made in every two years, their logistics costs have continued to decrease from 1999 when the number stood at 12.50%.
“Despite unfavorable conditions including the increase of oil price, domestic firms have reduced the portion of their logistics costs thanks to their efforts put into improving delivery frequency and loadage rate,” says the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
As companies favor specialized distribution firms for efficient logistics, the rate of using the 3rd party logistics companies has gone up from 50% in 2010 to 56% 2011 and to 59.6% 2012.
Transportation takes the most part of the logistics costs, accounting for 58.4% (as of 2011), followed by storage (28.8%) and package (7.0%). The transportation cost went up by 10%p from 41.9% in 2009 due to the increases in gas price and labor cost.
The Ministry of Industry has a plan to expand its support for the 3rd party logistics to enhance the logistics efficiency of local companies.

우리 기업이 물류 프로세스 개선에 힘입어 매출액 대비 물류비 비중을 지속적으로 낮춘 것으로 나타났다.
산업통상자원부와 국토교통부가 주관하고 한국무역협회가 시행한 `2011년 기업물류비 실태조사`와 `2012년 제3자물류 활용 실태조사`에 따르면 2011년 제조업·도소매업 매출액 대비 물류비 비중은 2009년 대비 0.34%p 감소한 8.03%로 집계됐다. 격년 단위로 산출한 동일 지표를 살펴보면 지난 1999년 12.50% 이후 꾸준히 내림세를 기록했다.
산업부는 “유가상승 등 어려운 여건 속에서도 배송빈도 개선과 적재율 향상 등 물류 효율성 개선 노력에 힘입어 물류비 비중이 감소했다”고 풀이했다.
기업이 물류 효율화를 위해 전문업체를 선호하면서 제3자물류 활용비율은 계속 증가했다. 제3자물류 활용률은 2010년 50%를 넘어선 이후 △2011년 56.0% △2012년 59.6%로 확대됐다.
전체 물류비는 운송비 비중이 58.4%(2011년)로 가장 높았다. 나머지는 보관비(28.8%), 포장비(7.0%) 등이다. 운송비 비중은 2009년 41.9%에서 10%p 이상 늘어났다. 유가와 인건비 상승이 주된 원인이다.
산업부는 물류 효율성 추가 개선을 위해 제3자물류 지원제도 확대 등을 검토할 방침이다.
