SEOUL, KOREA - As Yeonggwang No. 3 nuclear reactor is expected to resume operations by June 10, the strain on electric power supply will somehow be eased. The Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy said on the 7th that it would begin working on reoperating the reactor after the ninth joint response committee meeting.
The committee meeting held on the day between nuclear power plant operators and resident representatives accepted the conclusion of TUV Nord Group that there was no problem with repair of the reactor. In November last year, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power found small cracks on the control rod guide tubes in a preventive inspection and halted operations for maintenance.
Once 1-million-kilowatt Yeonggwang No. 3 reopens, the total number of nuclear reactors in operation will rise to 11, which is expected to increase the electric power supply until the regular maintenance on Wolsong No. 3 scheduled on June 15.
