SEOUL, KOREA - The share of logistics cost to corporate sales fell to 8 percent. Logistics cost turned out to give more burden to small and medium-sized enterprises than large companies.
According to a survey conducted by the Korea International Trade Association on corporate logistics cost and the trend of third-party logistics, the amount of logistics cost that Korean companies spent in 2011, accounted for 8 percent of their sales on average.
Large companies had less burden from logistics cost which accounted for 6.8 percent of their sales, compared to SMEs, for which the share of logistics cost in sales stood at a higher level of 8.3 percent.
By business type, the manufacturing industry has a higher share of logistics cost (8.9%) than the retail and wholesale industry (7.5%).
The share of logistics cost to corporate sales continued to decline from 12.5 percent in 1999 to 11.1 percent in 2001, 9.9 percent in 2003, 9.7 percent in 2005, 9.1 percent in 2007 and 8.4 percent in 2009.
