SEOUL, KOREA - The Korea Trade Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) announced on June 6 that it will export 100 units of smart police cars to Peru two days later. The smart police cars were developed based on Hyundai Motor's Santa Fe gasoline models.
The export is the first shipment of the deal worth $30 million (800 units) KOTRA signed with Peru's Interior Ministry last year.
On behalf of the Korean government, KOTRA led the deal with Peru. Hyundai Motor developed the model and a group of Korea's small startups, including eTech and Entoss, supplied police-related equipment and surveillance cameras mounted on the cars.
The smart police cars are mounted with front bullet-proof glasses, laptop computers for use in automobiles, and fingerprint recognition systems. Also mounted is a telecommunications system that allows the cars exchange data with police stations on a real-time basis.
