SEOUL, KOREA - About 63 Koreans out of 100 will go on a vacation trip during the upcoming summer. Of these, 86.6 percent will travel to domestic destinations. According to a survey conducted jointly by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and the Korea Culture & Tourism Institute on 1,004 respondents, 62.7 percent of the respondents said they would take a summer trip, up 12.1 percentage points from 2012.
The average expected spending for the summer vacation was 203,000 won, with the percentage of people answering they would spend between 100,000 and 200,000 won accounting for the largest share of 36.7 percent, followed by 200,000 and 300,000 won (23.5%) and 300,000 and 500,000 won (17.0%). Based on the survey's spending amount, the aggregate spending for this summer was estimated at 3.9 trillion won, about 100 billion more than last year.
To the question of vacation time, 51 percent of respondents answered the week between July 29 and August 4. The average days of vacation have also lengthened by 0.4 day to 3.2 days.
