Seoul, Korea - Korea Exchange is to hold the opening ceremony of KONEX at the Korea Exchange building in Yeouido on July 1st. Total of 21 companies are to be listed so far, and will be traded as the first 21 companies in the new stock trade market. The opening of KONEX has brought high hopes to those who depended mainly on the banks and government supports, allowing them to source the funds through a new ‘financial artery.’
The companies with promising technology but short of capital are hoping to source necessary capital from KONEX and move onto KOSDAQ in the future. With the entrance barrier significantly lowered, the companies whose ailing performances stopped the entrance into the securities market or KOSDAQ will be able to improve their performances while they are in KONEX and move onto other markets.
Korea Exchange anticipated that the average market capitalization of KONEX companies will reach KRW 30 to 40 billion within this year, making the size of total market reach beyond 1 trillion Won. However, the doubt still exists whether the new market will be able to take a firm root as fast as it is hoped, since the KOSDAQ, which was supposed to have served the exact purpose of channeling the fund for venture and SMEs, has not met its expectations, and so did the Freeboard, the off-board market.
KONEX will not announce any index for a time being, because it takes at least six months for the trading data to be accumulated so that any index information will be meaningful.
코넥스 내주 개장…상장사 21곳 출범 준비완료
다음 달 1일 개장하는 벤처•중소기업 전용 주식시장 코넥스(KONEX)에 기업과 금융시장의 기대감이 증폭되고 있다. 기존 유가증권시장과 코스닥에 이어 제3의 장내 주식시장이 생겨나면서 자본시장의 역학 구도에 큰 변화가 예상된다.
거래소는 오는 1일 오전 10시 서울 여의도 한국거래소에서 코넥스시장 개장식을 연다. 총 21개사가 `상장 1호` 기업 타이틀을 달고 거래를 시작할 예정이다. 벤처•중소기업에 코넥스 상장은 은행이나 정책자금 외에도 자금을 조달할 수 있는 새로운 금융 동맥이 뚫리는 것이어서 기대가 크다.
기술은 있지만 자본이 부족한 기업이 코넥스에서 자금을 원활히 조달하고 코스닥 이전 상장 등의 기회를 얻게 될 것으로 기대하고 있다. 시장 진입장벽을 대폭 낮춘 만큼 실적악화로 유가증권 및 코스닥시장에 가지 못한 기업들이 코넥스에서 내실을 쌓은 뒤 이전 상장하는 흐름이 이어질 수 있을 전망이다.
거래소는 연내에 코넥스 기업의 평균 시가총액이 300억∼400억원 수준에 이르러 전체 시장규모가 1조원을 넘어설 것으로 내다봤다. 하지만 코넥스가 시장이 조기에 안착할 수 있을지 확신하지 못하는 분위기도 있다. 벤처•중소기업의 자금조달 중개 역할을 맡았어야 할 코스닥시장이 제 기능을 못하고 비슷한 목적으로 설립된 장외 주식시장인 프리보드도 지지부진하기 때문이다.
거래소는 당분간 코넥스지수는 발표하지 않을 계획이다. 거래 데이터가 최소 6개월 이상 쌓여야 지수정보가 의미가 있다는 게 거래소의 설명이다. 이 때문에 이르면 내년 상반기에나 지수가 공개될 전망이다.
