Seoul, Korea - Samsung Electronics and Pantech have agreed to cooperate in the distribution of their smartphones, and Samsung Mobile Shops will start to sell Pantech products. The industry is paying a close attention on how far the two companies will go together, after Samsung’s equity investment in Pantech and joint distribution of competing products.
On July 1st, Samsung Electronics and Pantech announced that Vega Zone will be set up in Samsung Mobile Shops nationwide to showcase and sell Pantech products.
The sharing of retail outlet was known to have been suggested by Pantech and accepted by Samsung Electronics for a win-win relationship.
The industry experts anticipated that Pantech will be able to enhance its circulation of products and brand awareness by using Samsung’s own retail outlets after Pantech’s move-in. Pantech also owns its own retail outlet named Lots, which has about 20 shops around the nation, but most of them are located in Seoul and its vicinity. On the other hand, Samsung Mobile Shop has about 70 off-line shops nationwide. Pantech’s move-in means greater opportunity for the brand and product exposures.
Samsung Electronics had acquired 53 billion Won worth Pantech shares in last May, and is going far enough to share the distribution network this time.
Meanwhile, Pantech’s off-line retail shops, Lots, will sell Galaxy smartphones.
삼성모바일샵에서 팬택 스마트폰도 판다
삼성전자와 팬택이 유통 협력 체제를 구축하고, 삼성모바일샵에서 팬택 제품을 판매한다. 삼성전자가 팬택에 지분을 투자한 데 이어 유통까지 힘을 합치면서 향후 양사 협력이 어디까지 진전될지 주목된다.
1일 삼성전자와 팬택에 따르면 삼성전자가 운영하는 전국 `삼성모바일샵`에 `베가존`을 설치하고, 팬택 제품을 진열•판매한다.
양사 협력은 팬택이 요청하고, 삼성전자가 상생을 위해 수용한 것으로 알려졌다.
팬택은 삼성모바일샵을 활용해 유통과 브랜드 인지도를 높일 수 있을 것으로 예상된다. 현재 팬택의 유통 자회사 라츠는 20여개 매장을 보유하고 있지만, 대부분 서울과 수도권에 집중돼 있다. 반면에 삼성모바일샵은 전국에 걸쳐 70여개 매장을 운영 중이다. 팬택 제품이 삼성모바일샵에 진열되면 더 많은 소비자에게 제품과 브랜드를 소개할 기회를 얻게 된다.
삼성전자는 지난 5월 팬택에 530억원 규모의 지분을 투자한 데 이어 유통 분야까지 실질적인 협력을 확대했다.
한편 팬택 라츠 매장에서도 삼성전자 갤럭시 스마트폰을 판매하는 것으로 알려졌다.
