Seoul, Korea - Korea’s trade businesses are expecting that export would slowly improve from the 3rd quarter.
Ships, mobile phones and other IT products are expected to lead the export recovery. According to a recent survey of 980 export businesses conducted by the Institute for International Trade of Korea International Trade Association on the export business outlook, the Export Business Survey Index (EBSI) has exceeded 100 again following the previous quarter, standing at 101.6. The EBSI gets close to 200 from the benchmark number of 100 when there are more positive answers than negative ones regarding the export business.
Along with the expected rise in export consultation and contracts for the 3rd quarter, the rate of operation of facilities is also analyzed to improve for that period. Meanwhile, the export profitability and the overall conditions of export unit cost have been surveyed to be deteriorated for the 3rd quarter compared with the previous quarter.
The exports of Ships and major IT products are expected to grow. High value ships including drill ships and FPSO are scheduled to be delivered in the second half of the year. The automobile industry is also expected to go up in the latter half of the year. The export boom of semiconductors is believed to continue as the rise in unit price of memory semiconductors in the first half of the year would last until the rest of the year. The export of mobile phones is also anticipated to increase thanks to the release of premium models. Meanwhile, the exports of steel and petroleum products would be sluggish compared with the 2nd quarter.
When asked the biggest obstacle local export businesses would face in the 3rd quarter, 18.3% of them answered the economic downturn of the export markets. “Korea’s trade industry is expecting a slight but gradual export recovery in the 3rd quarter. Detailed monitoring of the export environment and timely measures should be made as the economic growth rate of China has slowed to late 7% and concerns over the economic slowdown of the export markets are spreading out since the US has started implementing exit strategies,” says Hong Ji-sang, a senior researcher of the Institute.
한국 수출 되살아난다…기대되는 품목은
무역업계가 3분기부터 점진적인 수출 호조를 예상했다. 선박과 휴대폰 등 IT업계를 중심으로 수출경기 회복을 기대했다. 한국무역협회 국제무역연구원이 국내 980개 수출업체를 대상으로 실시한 `2013년 3/4분기 수출산업 경기전망(EBSI) 조사`에 따르면 3분기 전망지수는 101.6을 기록해 전 분기에 이어 100을 상회했다. EBSI는 100을 기준으로 경기를 밝게 보는 의견이 많을수록 200에 가까워진다.
세부 항목별로 보면 3분기 수출 상담과 수출 계약 증가와 더불어 설비가동률도 다소 높아질 것으로 분석됐다. 하지만 수출채산성과 수출단가 여건은 2분기보다 악화될 것으로 조사됐다.
품목별로는 선박과 주요 IT제품 수출이 호조를 보일 것으로 예상됐다. 선박은 하반기 드릴십, FPSO 등 고부가가치선 인도가 예정돼 있고, 자동차는 상반기 노조파업으로 인한 생산차질이 진정되면서 하반기에는 성장세가 예상됐다. 반도체는 상반기 메모리반도체 단가상승세가 하반기까지 이어지면서 수출호조세가 지속될 것으로 예상됐다. 휴대폰도 3분기 최신형 고가 모델 출시로 수출에 탄력을 받을 전망이다. 반면 철강 및 석유제품 등은 2분기 보다 수출경기가 어두울 전망이다.
한편 국내 수출기업들은 3분기 겪게 될 가장 큰 애로요인으로 수출대상국 경기부진(18.3%)을 지적했다. 최근 미국의 출구전략 시행 발표 이후 신흥시장을 중심으로 주요 수출국 경기부진에 대한 우리 무역업계의 우려가 반영된 것으로 보인다. 홍지상 국제무역연구원 수석연구원은 “3분기 우리 무역업계는 소폭이나마 점진적인 수출경기 회복을 기대하고 있다”며 “최근 중국 경제성장률도 7% 후반으로 성장세가 둔화되고, 미국 출구전략 시행 발표로 수출국 경기에 대한 우려가 확산되는 만큼 면밀한 수출환경 모니터링과 시의적절한 정책대응을 강화해야 할 것”이라고 강조했다.
