Seoul, Korea - Samsung is set to hire law school graduates in order to deal with the increasing legal disputes and IPR lawsuits against competitors. According to a report, 11 Samsung Group companies started recruiting the interns among class of 2014 law school graduates. 11 Samsung companies are joining the recruiting process, including Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display, Samsung Life Insurance, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance and Samsung Heavy Industries. It is the third time that Samsung Group companies hire law school graduates as interns, since 2011. In September last year, Samsung Group employed lawyers with law school diplomas. Many of them were assigned to departments related to marketing, planning and HR, not to legal departments. The industry insiders analyzed that such move was intended to maximize synergic effects in the departments by utilizing the legal knowledge of lawyers. Recently, legal disputes have sharply increased as more customers recognize and try to protect their rights, and competition has ever intensified among companies. Recently, the National Assembly has discussed the introduction of punitive damage into law. Against this backdrop, more and more companies are expected to hire legal experts as the legal department has increasingly become important.
삼성, 로스쿨 졸업예정자 채용 나서
삼성그룹이 법학전문대학원(로스쿨) 졸업예정자 채용에 나섰다. 소비자와의 분쟁, 지적재산권을 둘러싼 경쟁업체와의 소송 증가 등이 배경으로 해석된다.
2일 삼성그룹에 따르면 삼성전자, 삼성SDI, 삼성전기, 삼성디스플레이 등 전자계열사를 포함한 11개 회사가 내년 2월 로스쿨 졸업예정자를 대상으로 합동 인턴사원 선발 절차에 들어갔다.
삼성생명, 삼성화재, 삼성중공업, 삼성물산, 제일모직, 호텔신라, 삼성바이오로직스도 함께 채용에 나섰다. 삼성이 예비 변호사를 인턴으로 모집하는 것은 2011년, 2012년에 이어 이번이 세 번째이다. 작년에는 10개 계열사가 인턴 채용에 동참했었다.
이어 작년 9월에는 로스쿨 출신 변호사를 일반직 직원으로 대거 채용했다. 이 때 선발한 변호사들은 법무 분야가 아닌 마케팅·기획·인사 등 일반 부서에 배치됐다. 법무지식을 갖춘 변호사들이 일반 직원들과 함께 근무하면서 현장업무와의 시너지를 내기 위한 조치였다.
소비자들의 권리 의식이 강해지고 업체간 경쟁 격화로 법적 분쟁이 많아지는 상황이다. 최근에는 징벌적 손해배상 제도 등도 국회에서 논의되고 있다. 개별 회사의 법무 능력이 더 중요해지고 있어 재계의 법률 전문가 채용은 앞으로 더 확대될 전망이다.
