Seoul, Korea - It has been surveyed that the competitiveness of local venture companies scored only 67 out of 100. The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry has recently conducted a survey of 315 local venture companies and asked them what score would be given to their companies’ competitiveness out of 100. And they answered 67.3 on average.
Looking at the items asked in the survey, the point of quality and design topped, standing at 71.2, followed by price and technical competitiveness (69.8 and 66.2 respectively) and organization management and marketing (61.9).
When asked which global venture companies are equipped with the world’s best competitiveness, they responded Google, Facebook, Clearwire (ICT), Tesla Motors (automobile) and Castlight Health (bio and health).
35.9% of them said their business environment became worse compared with the early 2000s when venture companies started to boom, while 7.3% answered positively. Those responded negatively in terms of the business conditions said venture investment reduction (29.2%), economic slowdown of overseas markets (23.1%), fierce competition and decreased chances of creasing startups (21.2%), lack of talented people in the field of science and engineering (17.7%) and weak entrepreneurship (8.8%) were behind the deterioration of their business environment.
34.9% of the respondents said groundbreaking ideas and technical power were the most critical factors for the growth of venture companies, while others chose stable capital flow (28.3%), timely business chances and eyes for lucrative markets (24.8%) and policy supports and social attention (8.5%) as the most important elements for their success.
As for government policies to nurture venture companies, 50.4% of them responded they would need financial support most, followed by tax relief (21.9%), support for overseas expansion and marketing (14.3%) and human resource provision through special case of military service (12.4%).

각종 벤처 활성화 정책에도 국내 벤처기업의 경쟁력은 세계 최고대비 67점에 불과하다는 조사결과가 나왔다. 대한상공회의소는 최근 국내 벤처 인증기업 315개사를 대상으로 `창조경제시대 벤처기업 육성을 위한 정책과제`를 조사한 결과 동종업계 세계 최고 글로벌 벤처기업이 가진 경쟁력을 100으로 봤을 때 귀사의 경쟁력은 얼마인지를 묻는 질문에 평균 67.3점으로 답변했다.
항목별로는 품질·디자인이 71.2점으로 가장 높았고 가격과 기술경쟁력 분야가 각각 69.8점, 66.2점, 조직관리·마케팅은 61.9점을 기록했다.
세계 최고 경쟁력을 갖춘 글로벌 벤처기업으로는 구글, 페이스북, 클리어와이어(정보통신·IT), 테슬라모터스(자동차), 캐스트라이트헬스(바이오·헬스) 등을 꼽았다. 벤처기업은 현재 경영여건을 벤처붐이 일었던 2000년대 초반보다 열악하다고 평가했다.
2000년대 초반에 비해 최근 경영환경이 어떤지를 묻는 질문에 나빠졌다(35.9%)는 응답이 좋아졌다(7.3%)는 답변보다 많았다. 경영환경 악화 이유로 엔젤투자 등 벤처투자 감소(29.2%), 대외경제여건 악화(23.1%), 경쟁과열 등 창업기회 감소(21.2%), 이공계 기피현상으로 인한 인재풀 축소(17.7%), 기업인의 도전정신 약화(8.8%) 등을 들었다.
대한상의는 “지난해 벤처기업 수는 벤처붐이 일었던 2001년에 비해 약 2.5배 증가했지만, 벤처캐피털 투자규모는 같은 기간 약 1.3배 증가하는데 그쳐 개별기업 입장에서는 투자유치 규모는 축소된 셈이다”고 지적했다.
벤처기업 성장의 가장 중요한 요소는 획기적인 아이디어 및 기술력(34.9%), 사업자금의 안정적 확보(28.3%), 적절한 사업기회 및 시장포착(24.8%), 정책지원과 사회적 관심(8.5%) 등을 꼽았다. 경영상 가장 큰 애로는 투자유치 등 자금조달(41.3%), 자금 확보 방안은 금융권 융자(54.9%), 기술 확보 방안은 직접 개발(68.3%)을 가장 많이 선택했다.
창조경제시대 벤처활성화 정책과제로는 정책자금·신용보증 등 금융지원(50.4%), 법인세·취득세 등 세제지원(21.9%), 해외진출 및 마케팅 지원(14.3%), 병역특례 등 인력지원(12.4%)을 들었다. 전수봉 대한상의 조사1본부장은 “작년 기준으로 국내 벤처기업이 2만8000여개사에 달하는 등 양적으로 성장했지만 경쟁력은 아직 세계 수준에 못 미친다”며 “정부는 벤처기업 자금애로 해소 대책과 함께 기술개발 인프라 구축, 우수인재 확보지원 등 벤처기업 경쟁력 향상 대책을 마련해야 한다”고 말했다.
