SEOUL, KOREA- Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors saw their combined cumulative car sales in China pass the 7-million level, in 11 years after they launched into the market.
The two carmakers announced on July 4 that Beijing Hyundai and Dongfeng Yueda Kia each have sold 4.62 million units and 2.37 million units until the end of the first half of this year.
Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors, which sold 134,223 units in China in 2003, saw their combined annual sales there rise to over 1 million units and reach 1.33 million units.
In the January-June period of this year, Beijing Hyundai sold 510,842 units and Dongfeng Yueda Kia 276,466 units, with their combined sales reaching 787,308 units, up 32.6 percent from a year ago.
This represents the record-high first-half figure and up 6 percent from 742,665 units recorded in the second half of last year. This figure is equivalent to 53 percent of their Chinese sales target set at 1.47 million units.
