Seoul, Korea - On July 11th, SK Telecom announced that its LTE-A subscribers have exceeded 150,000 since the commercialization of the service. The number of customers who moved from LTE to LTE-A has rapidly increased. According to SK Telecom, approximately 30% of new subscribers and those switching to new handsets decided to choose LTE-A. The number of LTE-A subscribers stayed at 5,000 to 6,000 a day in June, but it has sharply gone up to 12,000 a day in July. Compared to LTE subscribers, LTE-A users show 33% more Minutes of Use (MOU), and 73% more data. Among all the LTE-A subscribers, 57.1% are in their 20s to 30s, and when those in their 40s are considered in the calculation, a whopping 78.2% of the total LTE-A users are aged 20-40. SK Telecom said that the number of single mode LTE users has already exceeded 200,000. “LTE-A subscribers have been on the rise continuously, and therefore we expect LTE-A service to dominate the overall mobile communication market in the near future”, “We are going to make continuous efforts to come up with differentiated services for LTE-A customers, and will thereby lead the market and stay on the leading edge of ICT innovation”, said a SK Telecom staff.

SK텔레콤은 롱텀에벌루션 어드밴스트(LTE-A) 상용화 이후 14일 만에 가입고객 15만(10일 기준)명을 돌파했다고 11일 밝혔다.
LTE에서 LTE-A로 전환하는 고객이 빠르게 늘고 있다. SKT는 전체 신규 가입과 기기변경 고객 중 LTE-A 가입 비중은 약 30% 수준이라고 밝혔다.
LTE-A 가입자는 6월에는 일일 5000~6000명 수준이었으나 7월 들어서 1만2000명 수준으로 현격한 가입자 증가세를 보이고 있다.
LTE-A 가입 고객들의 LTE 고객 평균 대비 음성사용량(MOU)은 33%, 데이터 사용량은 73% 많았다. 20~30대가 차지하는 비중이 57.1%에 달하는 것으로 조사됐으며, 40대(21.1%)까지 포함할 경우 20~40대가 전체 78.2%를 차지했다.
SKT는 HD 보이스를 기본 음성통화로 설정해 음성과 데이터를 모두 LTE로 이용하는 싱글LTE 고객은 이미 20만명을 넘어섰다고 밝혔다.
장동현 SKT 마케팅부문장은 “LTE-A 가입 고객이 증가하는 추세로 조만간 LTE-A로 이동통신 시장이 재편될 것으로 예상된다”며 “향후 LTE-A 고객을 위한 차별화된 서비스를 지속 발굴해 ICT 혁신을 이끌어 갈 것”이라고 말했다.
