SEOUL, KOREA - LS Cable & System said on July 15 that it won a US$13-million project to supply 230-kV-class ultra-high-voltage underground cables and connectors to Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative of the United States.

 

The cables and connectors will be used to upgrade the power transmission and distribution network in the southern part of the state.

 

One of the notable features of the project is that the ultra-high-voltage cables will be laid across the Patuxent River for a length of 1.5 kilometers underneath the riverbed. Given that underground ultra-high-voltage cables are generally connected in 500-meter units to avoid productivity and management-related problems, the project requires outstanding technological know-how and expertise in all areas of cable project implementation.

 

LS Cable & System was given high acclaim in its technological prowess by winning last year a project for 225-kV ultra-high-voltage cables from Electricite de France S.A., the world's largest electricity producer.
