SEOUL, KOREA - The Korea Exchange (KRX) had a problem in sending information on stock price index for about one and a half hours, causing investors to be confused on July 15.Information on stock exchange price of some of the derivative securities has been belatedly provided before, but it was the first time the provision of information on the KOSPI (the Korea Composite Stock Price Index) was put off.
According to the securities industry on the day, major information on stock price index including the KOSPI was transmitted to the stock firms’ HTS (Home Trading System) in bad time due to computer problems of the KRX. After opening the market at 9 a.m., the transmission of some of the index data was postponed for about 10 to 30 minutes.Even if there was no issue in calculating the index, it was only after 10:21 a.m. that the network error in transmitting the index information to HTS was addressed.
Information not only on the KOSPI but also on the KOSDAQ, the KRX Sector Index, program trading and investors of each stock market wasn’t provided in time. Stock firms are known to have different level of severity regarding the issue. But the price information on the KOSDAQ wasn’t once transmitted to some of the stock firms such as Daishin Securities and Samsung Securities for as many as more than 30 minutes.
The KRX excluded the possibility of system errors or external attacks as the index was correctly calculated. But they believe there were errors only in transmitting the index information due to a bottleneck in the network linked to the HTS of the local securities firms.
거래소, 코스피지수 전송 지연…1시간만에 복구
15일 한국거래소의 지수 정보가 지연 송출되는 사태가 1시간 20여분간 지속, 투자자들이 혼선을 빚었다. 파생상품 일부 종목 시세 정보 제공이 늦어진 적은 있었지만 시장 대표지수인 코스피 시세 정보가 지연된 것은 처음이다.
이날 증권업계에 따르면 한국거래소의 전산 오류로 아침 9시 개장 직후부터 코스피지수 등 주요 지수정보가 증권사 홈트레이딩시스템(HTS)에 10∼30분가량 지연 송출되는 일이 발생했다.
지수 산출에는 문제가 없었으나 지수를 HTS로 전송하는 네트워크에 장애가 발생, 정보 제공이 지연됐으며 오전 10시 21분 경 정상화됐다.
정보는 코스피뿐만 아니라 코스닥지수, KRX섹터지수, 프로그램매매, 시장별 투자자 정보도 지연 제공됐다. 증권사별로 데이터 수신범위나 수신속도 등의 문제의 심각성은 상이했던 것으로 알려졌다. 대신증권, 삼성증권 등 일부 증권사의 코스닥지수는 시세 정보가 30분 이상 크게 지연되기도 했다.
이에따라 각 증권사는 “거래소 문제로 일부 시세(코스피·코스닥지수 등)가 늦게 들어오고 있다”며 “이는 전 증권사 공통사항이므로 투자에 유의하기 바란다”는 공지를 띄웠다. 시세는 한때 15분 이상 차이가 나기도 했으나 거래소가 조치에 들어가면서 간격이 좁아졌다.
거래소는 시스템 오류나 외부 공격에 의한 가능성은 배제했다. 시스템이 오류가 생겼다면 지수산출 내용에서 문제가 발생해야 하지만 지수정보는 제대로 산출됐고 다만 송출에서 문제가 발생한 것일 뿐이라는 게 거래소 측의 설명이다.
거래소는 국내 전 증권사로 나가는 통로에서 발생한 것으로 보고 있다. 증권사 HTS로 지수를 내보내는 네트워크에 데이터가 몰려 병목현상이 발생했다는 설명이다.
신재룡 한국거래소 IT관리부장은 “이날 메인시스템에 일부 문제가 발생해 백업시스템으로 전환해 가동하다 메인시스템으로 복귀하는 과정에서 누적 데이터가 제대로 전송되지 못해 발생한 문제로 보고 있다”며 “메인시스템에서 발생한 문제와 원인에 대해서는 현재 파악 중”이라고 말했다.
