SEOUL, KOREA- The petrochemical division of Daelim Industrial said on July 30 that its newly built plant in the Wanju Industrial Zone (North Jeolla Province) has begun commercial operations to produce Biaxially-Oriented Polypropylene (BOPP) films. The company saw the plant's completion in May this year after two years of construction costing more than 50 billion won.
BOPP film is used in a variety of consumer and industrial applications including packaging, pressure sensitive tape, printing and lamination, and cable wrap and insulation. Including the existing BOPP plant in the same location, Daelim Industrial has now a BOPP capacity of 45,000 tons a year.
Yoo Jae-gwan, Daelim Industrial's executive in charge of petrochemical-based film business, said, "Thanks to the domestic production of high-performance films, we can expect an import substitution effect of $13 billion and an export-boosting effect of $30 billion a year. It will also contribute to the local economy in terms of job creation and economic revitalization."
